In the painting of the chair with the green rug and red book, I painted in the brush and pen, one such as I use when I write here. Here one sees the three things I love to do - write, read and artwork. One may ask, "Well, where is the music, I thought he enjoyed so much classical music." The music is there, in the colors and the composition. Here I agree with Kandinsky that colors do envoke certain musical tones. Certainly when I listen to Wagner or Debussy, I see the colors as I hear the music. And the book? I used my copy of Lelia by George Sand. The cover itself is red and the subject and author befitting this self-portrait - still life. When I think of what that great woman went through in her life and what I go through now, she is certainly a great symbol of strength for all artists.
