Robert Flinkman Pandora's Box etching and aquatint on Hahnemuehle paper 11" X 9" copyright 2017 Robert Flinkman The following six etchings and aquatints were selected from a series I have created which were influenced by the great Spanish artist, Francisco Goya (1746-1828), and his series of prints, Los Caprichos. Admiring his work, I have created my own series illustrating my own personal social and political commentaries and observations about contemporary society.

According to the ancient Greek myth, Pandora opened the box out of curiosity, releasing thus all the woes of mankind, leaving only Hope left. How much worse the results this then being done deliberately, releasing the demons of racism, misogny, xenophobia and homophobia, in order to gain personal power. We would be lucky if Hope is still the only thing left.

Some people refuse to face the truth or deal with the facts. As a result, they proceed on recklessly, unaware of their own pitfalls. As it is said, there are none so blind as those who choose not to see.

Both men are fighting over which way to go - this way or that, left or right. Who has chosen the right path to follow? It really makes no difference, since both ways lead to dead ends.
