In the meantime, refusing to let this day go without artwork, I headed over to the alleyway and started the pen and ink of the adobe home there. I got down the basic structure in light, light pencil, and started in with the pen and ink. So far, so good. I do want to capture the feel of these back alleyways with their dirt roads that run parallel with the main roads.

I completed a fine pen and ink of the alleyway nearby, came out beautifully! I am pleased with the results - time, patience, craftsmanship. The first pen and ink I did of the orchard is heavy-handed. This one of the alleyway shows vast improvement. Again and again what comes back to me was the experience of becoming familiar with the Chinese brush-work, the idea of balancing opposites, black and white, positive and negative, activity and inactivity, that delicate and harmonious balancing of opposites, it's all there in that work!
