May 27, 1986     Tuesday

I came away with two pastel works - both of the country. One I did Sunday afternoon. Spotting a ridge nearby our motel,.....I scaled brush, brambles, poison oak (successful), a deep "crick", and barbed wire to get near the ridge. I found a suitable spot, and settled down. Nearby were two horses, one black with a star on his forehead, the other brown with white tufts on his hoofs. They watched me with perked ears and curiosity as I wandered about, pad and pastels in hand.......Nearby I found a cultivated area, bright red-orange soil, and corn shoots just begining, and sat down there. I came away with a fairly decent work, perhaps better than the one I had originaly planned, more color here.
