Yesterday - and the day before - I headed up to Ghost Ranch to finish the pastel. The landscape came off very nicely, very pleased with the work. The area around Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu is just beautiful. I stood there, looking at the sky - such dramatic and expressive cloud formations, the quiet, and the dazzling colors and forms of the landscape, and I thought to myself - I could retire here. I just may. I worked well yesterday, the cardboard sheet on my lap, I worked away on my own, within my own mind on the lower half of the landscape, all the while the outer landscape in front of me. Truthfully, I'm most struck with the horizontal ridge to the left of the central mesa. There's where it is most beautifully abstract, and I do really think that's where I should be headed. The ridge area I'm most impressed by. That shows the most growth and maturation. I've broken into new area here. Must keep that in mind. Anyway, I'm going to take this new piece to get matted and framed, protected and preserved.
